Spotlight on Taryn Leigh, author of her debut novel “Perfect Imperfections” released on 3/29/17 :
Book Blurb:
Sarah Lewis desires nothing more than to begin again after a failed marriage and a tragedy so terrifying, it forces her to leave her life in London to stay with her best friend a world apart in South Africa.
Despite immediate success in her business, she struggles to understand who she really is and where she belongs in the world. So begins a journey of discovery as Sarah re-unites with Katy in the land where she was born, where the air is lavender scented, and weekends are spent cycling on the beach.
Until the day when she has to return to London to face the ghosts of her past and confront a situation that has grown more complicated in her absence.
Perfect Imperfections is an intriguing tale which hints at wrongdoings and deceit without giving too much away. The author cleverly weaves a tale around fragile yet strong Sarah as she tries to reconcile her past with her future, engaging the reader to the point where we simply want the best for her and for happiness finally to come her way.
Where did you grow up and currently live?
I grew up in Durban, South Africa, which was the inspiration behind most of the books locations. Although it is also set in London.
Currently I live in Pretoria, South Africa with my Husband, son and two cocker spaniels.
Have you always had a passion for writing? Is that your primary occupation?
Books have been my love affair ever since my first grade teacher told my mother to take me to the local library to improve my reading skills. I fell in love with Enid Blyton’s books, especially the Faraway Tree and Malory Towers series. From there I spent my entire school life with my nose buried in books, which resulted in me becoming the Library prefect in both Junior and High School.
I studied Interior Design for 4 years, but by day I work in Procurement in the Pharmaceutical Industry, and by night I read and write books.
Where did you get your idea for “Perfect Imperfections”?
It literally came to me in my sleep, the entire plot. There were characters that I didn’t initially plan for that kind of wrote themselves into the pages of the book and added the elements of humour and adventure.
There are also parts of the characters that are inspired by real people I’ve had the privilege of knowing in my life, or experiences I’ve gone through.
For instance, Joseph and the art class is based on an art class I went to and Edwards character is actually based on my husband.
What activities do you enjoy in your free time?
I love being outdoors, reading, relaxing with family, and finding new places that can inspire me to write new books
Is there a next book in the works?
Yes there most definitely is. I’m currently working on it, and I’m really excited about the storyline.
What genre’s would this book be classified in?
It has a bit of everything.
There is Mystery because you don’t actually know what happened to Sarah until much later in the book. There are hints left throughout the book, which keeps your mind trying to solve the puzzle.
There is Adventure, as you are transported to new places and experience new things through each Character as they grow and develop.
There is Romance, that is a background thread to the storyline.
