In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

woodLeonora is a single 26 year old writer living in London. She finds herself in a hospital bed with injuries and no memory of an accident she was involved in. The book then takes you to the past where Leonora has been invited to a weekend bachelorette party for a friend that she has been out of touch with for many years.

The book pulled me in – why did she end up in the hospital? I wanted to know why she went to the party,  and what was her past relationship with the bride.  Why was she invited after being out of touch for almost a decade?  These facts  alone kept me reading,  and I did enjoy how the book would change between present day, past, and childhood.

This book tries to be another one  of the current psychological suspense thrillers, but at times is predictable and not believable.  However, the book is fast paced and easy to read.  It is probably well suited to read on a plane or the beach on vacation. This is the author’s debut novel, and I think we will see more from her in the future.
